How to Prevent Losing your Keys

Our keys are among the things we lose most often, they are so easy to misplace! Even when homes have key hooks and key bowls, we still struggle to keep track of keys. We place them down on random sides, leave them in pockets, drop them without realizing, and place them in safe places that are so safe we can never find them again. To help you combat this common problem we have found a few ways to help you keep track of your keys.

Use Technology to Keep Track of your Keys

With the use of technology and smartphones, companies have created new and innovative ways to keep track of your keys. These come in a variety of different styles so there is something to suit everyone.

Style 1. Traditional Key Finders

You can buy key finders that come in two parts. One part you attach to your keys and the other part you put somewhere you can always find it, like your handbag, your kitchen drawer, or a hook near your door. By activating one, the other one makes a loud beeping noise enabling you to track them down.

Style 2. Key Receiver and Remote

The difference between this one and the first style is that the half that allows you to track your keys comes as a remote with its own stand. The remote can often connect to 4 different sets which are all colour-coded. You attach one of the receivers to your keys and, when you lose them, you hit the corresponding color on the remote causing the reliever to make a noise that helps you find them.

Style 3. Bluetooth and Key Tags

Some bluetooth key finders work in a similar fashion to the styles above. But instead of activating the remote to start the noise maker on the keys going, you hit a button on your phone. With some of these bluetooth options, you can even set up your finders with systems like Alexa so you can just ask Alexa to find them for you.

Other variants of the bluetooth key finders, like the tags, also work by connecting to your phone but they have an added benefit. By using your phone in connection with a tag you will be able to find where your keys are on google maps or similar software. This is especially useful if you have lost your keys while enjoying a day out.

Keep Things Organized

It is easier said than done to keep the home organized and have everything in its place all the time. However, if you can achieve this you can train your brain to always put your keys in the same place, no matter how tiring it is.

There is a saying that if you do something 30 days in a row you can make it become a habit. Therefore, if you have a space or a place where you can always put your keys and you work to put your keys in that one place every day for 30 days it is something you will start doing automatically.

In order to do this successfully, you will need to keep the place where you always put your keys accessible and usable. This means that if you place them in a bowl on the inside near the door, you need to make sure that the bowl is always available and free of clutter near your door.

Use Colours on your Keys

Our brains are really good at picking up colors in our environment. So, instead of getting traditional silver and gold keys, if you have a penchant for losing your keys try getting one in vibrant red. You will find it easier to spot your keys in a busy environment, like the home.

Make Good Use of your Keyrings

If you don’t want to add colors, try using keyrings. Opt for a vibrant keyring that is going to catch attention. Or, if color isn’t your thing, try purchasing a keyring that is obnoxiously large. You will find that it is much easier to keep track of your keys when it has such a keyring on them.
